What software and hardware do you use?

Talk computer hardware, software, interfaces, and devices, either specific to recording, studio design, or just in general. Hang your ego at the door and come on in -- all are welcome! (That includes Linux, Mac, and PC users, too!)

What software and hardware do you use?

Might as well get this one started as well.

So what SW are you using if any?

What computer are you using it on - spec it but don't worry about the burners, more th HDDs and the I/O cards, etc.

Nah, instead of teaching band, I coach it, sort of like a football coach!

To answer my own questions.

SW?
Cubase 5.1R2 PB1 beta 7 - this is the old Cubase before we went through SX and Nuendo, etc. I bought it for scoring and have just ion the last six months started using the VST side of the beast - very nice.

Also have Audacity for quick mixes and captures (something about my new PC that doesn't let me catch more than 30" of audio in Cubase - too busy to sort it out though).

Also using a thing called hammerhead which is a 16 step soft drum machine, totally freeware (don't know where to find it now, but happy to make it available). Can store your own samples as well as input multiple bars of patterns. Has a nice straight/shuffle mix button which shifts where it interprets the second half of the beat or sixteenth note/semiquaver pairs. Can also stream the final version out to a wave file for inclusion in other editing programs.

Also found a program for doing a similar thing for african and middle eastern percussion instruments. Againa freeware and happy to make it available. Alos able to export as a wave file for use in other editing programs.

Sometimes use finale notepad and notepad for quick sketches before firing up the big guns.

I have started using Garritan Personal Orchestra, Jazz and Big Band and Concert and Marching Band sample librares with the Kontakt player. Have also bought the True Strike: Tension pack for Kore player also from Native Instruments, as well as downloading the free sample set for the Kore palyer.

HW?
Have a PC with 2G of Ram using an Intel Core 2 Duo 6300 running at 1.86 GHz. Mobo is a Gigabyte GA-945GM-S2 which has on board lan, audio, etc. I've added the basic soundblaster live card and a fire wire card as well as an extra two fans in the PCI slots. nVidia GeForce 6600 video card driving a single 21" LCD widescreen monitor. Internal drives are WD 10EACS 1TB, WD WD3200JS-55PDB0 320GB, Seagate ST3200826AS 200GB. Also two external drives (my third one just died within warranty) a 1 TB and a 250GB.

Also use the Tascam mentioned elsewhere here. I have Altec lansing desktop stereo plus subwoofer for my desktop monitoring. Can't wait to finalise the studio space (nearly there, another three weeks and I can do the reveal, I hope).
