Workstation 2 almost done!

Postby chadrockman » Wed Aug 13, 2008 3:59 pm

Just thought I'd upload some pics of the desk (so far). I used Birch plywood and screwed it all together. The wood dowel thing was just too time consuming for me  I modified the top shelf by making it higher so I could connect cables in & out the back of the board :) I wish I had more wood to extend the tabletop to the back but I modified it after the fact :( Tip! Always modify before cutting wood, haha. It doesn't look that bad and is very sturdy so I'm good, plus I don't have to spend another $40 on wood :) It was really easy to build and put together!!!

Now I'm just debating on painting it or not. I think I will go black satin with a clearcoat since I have those materials already. THe birch just looks so purty but it's those dang screws that's killin me  lol

I'll have more pics in the coming days.

Looking pretty good so far!  8) 8)

Don't forget to put some rails in there! ;)

If the screws bother you, try picking out some trim to cover them. You can also try covering them with bits of edge banding punched into little circles.

Looking forward to seeing more!! :)

It looks fantastic!! The more I see the black finishes, the more I like them. You've done a beautiful job!

What did you use to cover the screws?

Thanks Alex! I really love it. I simply used "wood filler" putty. You apply it with a knife and then just sand smooth. It worked great and you can't see where the screws were unless you look really close for the difference in texture
BTW, for paint I applied 2 coats of black Satin with 2 coats of clear. The trim is just plain screen moulding stained and glued down. No nails used in this project :)
